During the third year of studying Human Kinetics at the University of British Columbia, Mark was introduced to massage therapy. Having only two percent of his vision left due to a progressive retinal degenerative condition, he felt being a Massage Therapist would allow him to provide the best service to society.

Having weakness in one sense allows the brain to provide more power to other senses, for example touch and intuition. This is a great advantage that allows Mark to function at a heightened state of awareness when treating the body. Combining this with his knowledge of human movement patterns makes for a unique and powerful massage therapy experience.

Mark is joined by his seeing-eye dog Mindy. Mindy is a Black Labrador/Retriever. Clients love to see the 90 pound bundle of love and joy when they come into the clinic. She provides all the dog therapy you can handle, and if you do not like dogs, Mark suggests booking with one of the other 25+ great RMTs at the clinic.

Currently Mark’s focus is on building the therapeutic community at Everest Therapeutics and Electra Health Floor. Therefore at this time he does not have a set massage therapy schedule. However, if you’d really like to see Mark for a treatment, please give Reception a call and they will set up a session for you.

Dr. Dave has had the best results with patients that have ‘tried everything’ and especially those suffering with neuropathy. He only sees the patients 3 or 4 times. Dr. Dave’s success stems from his extensive knowledge, background and training. In 1999, he discovered that the majority of chronic, degenerative and inflammatory conditions demonstrate a lack of blood flow and oxygen in the involved areas. Later, he discovered a major cause of forward head carriage which is misshaped upper thoracic vertebral bodies and discs.

Dr. Dave’s discovery has revolutionized the health care world: he has travelled the world to teach, to conduct research and to publish manuscripts. He is only practicing one day a week, so book early!

With a keen interest in human anatomy and physiology, and a desire to help people feel their best, Dr. Laura always knew she wanted to get into healthcare. Chiropractic quickly became her first choice. After studying biology and kinesiology at university, Dr. Laura completed her doctorate at Palmer College of Chiropractic West, graduating as valedictorian with Summa Cum Laude honours and a 4.0 GPA. Her love of the mountains brought her back to Vancouver where she has been in clinical practice for several years.

As a chiropractor, Dr. Laura specializes in treating the joints, muscles, and nerves of the body, particularly the spine. Dr. Laura’s treatments focus on correcting alignment and biomechanics to ensure that the body can move with ease. She evaluates the body as a whole, focusing on the spine as the foundation, as well as addressing the muscles and other joints of the body. She uses gentle techniques to align the spine, such as a low-force handheld instrument called Activator. This is a great treatment option for patients that would benefit from chiropractic care but that don’t prefer the “twisting” or “cracking” that is sometimes associated with manual manipulation. During an Activator adjustment, the patient is laying in a neutral position and the gentle adjustment is made using the low-force instrument. For patients that prefer manual manipulation, she offers this type of treatment as well.

She combines her spinal treatments with soft tissue therapies to treat chronic muscle tension and repetitive stress injuries. She uses Graston to help break myofascial adhesions, in order to restore range of motion, correct movement patterns, and decrease pain and tension.

Dr. Laura’s integrated approach allows patients to feel better, faster. Whether you are dealing with a new injury, have experienced chronic discomfort, or just want to have your spine checked, Dr. Laura will help you feel your best. Her goal is to get patients back to the lifestyle and activities that make them happy.

Outside of the clinic, Dr. Laura loves to spend her time in the mountains, exploring in hiking boots in the summer and on skis in the winter. She feels lucky that we have such a wonderful playground right at our city’s doorstep. After travelling to 26 different countries (most of which were during a year-long, on-a-dime backpack trip at age 20), Dr. Laura feels that no place is more beautiful than Vancouver. She is happy that she can use her skills and knowledge to help patients feel better so that they can get out and enjoy all of the fun that this great city has to offer.

Justin is an honors graduate from the Vancouver College of Massage Therapy and holds a bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology from the University of Western Ontario. He is trained in the assessment, rehabilitation, prevention, and management of disorders to maintain, rehabilitate or enhance movement, performance, and function, in the areas of work, recreation, exercise, and activities of daily living. His university education gives him a unique insight into the biomechanics of the human body and valuable knowledge of sport-related injury and rehabilitation that he has taken into his career as an RMT.

Justin believes that with injuries, lack of movement, as well as occupational activities that require repetitive actions or sustained postures, the human body can become weak, stiff, and injured; many people become prisoners in their own bodies, denied freedom of motion. His professional desire is to expand the functional abilities of the human body, expand freedom of movement and, consequently, lift overall health and well-being.

Justin prefers to explain why he does each modality, believing that patient education is just as important as the application of the technique itself, this helps foster a mind-body connection within his patients. He strives to ensure all his patients are warm and comfortable and have an enjoyable experience and will work with them to come up with a clear and manageable treatment plan designed to help achieve their health-related goals.

Justin’s passion for health does not stop in the treatment room either, he has a passion to continuously learn about new treatment modalities; and can provide outstanding home care exercises to complement his treatments using his knowledge as past personal trainer.

Justin excels at treating patients who have been experiencing chronic pain that has developed from old injuries and utilizes his aptitude for problem-solving in conjunction with the use of manual therapy, motion, and home care exercises to stimulate the body’s healing and adaptive powers.

When Justin is not at the clinic he can be found social dancing, bouldering, hiking, biking or swimming.

My journey from pre-med student to massage therapy has been nothing short of transformational. I had always wanted to be a doctor after graduating from Simon Fraser University, where I studied biomedical physiology. I had a strong desire to make a positive difference in people’s lives and contribute to their well-being.

I realized that as an RMT, I could interact with my clients directly and give personalized care in a comprehensive and hands-on way. I was attracted by the power of touch and its potential to heal not just the physical body but also the mind and spirit. This realization inspired me to pursue massage therapy as a means of making a significant difference in people’s lives.

Please note: As a student of massage therapy, appointments with Montana are not billable under extended health.

Montana earned her bachelor’s degree in Anthropology in 2016 and was previously a curator at a local history museum.

Fascinated by her study of humans through time and space, particularly their anatomy and physiology, she found this type of study would be complementary to a career in health care. She discovered that massage therapy would be a natural fit, as she learned of the holistic ways in which RMT’s worked to achieve the goals of patients.

Montana is just finishing her third out of five semesters in the Registered Massage Therapy program at the Vancouver College of Massage Therapy and has amassed 145 direct hours in the student clinic thus far. Though she is new in the health care world, throughout this new journey, as well as her previous education and work experience, she has proven herself to be a curious, caring, and reliable individual throughout her professional life. Montana is comfortable with Swedish massage, deep tissue, hydrotherapy, and joint mobilizing techniques; particularly in achieving relaxation and improving general wellbeing. She can perform basic functional assessment as well as give home care suggestions. She looks forward to working with new patients at Electra!

Ever since he can remember, Igor has been fascinated by the human body. He started his career as a massage therapist, and his experience with healing inspired him to such a degree that he decided to pursue further studies in medicine. He became a Medical Doctor in 1986 and a Neurologist in 1988.

Igor believes that conventional and alternative methods have much to offer, and that the successful resolution of a condition is the result of a combination of treatments rather than the use of one. This is why he is always interested in a holistic approach, and why he has always incorporated massage therapy into his medical practice. In 1996, he obtained further certification and added Acupuncture and Manual Therapy to his roster of healing methodologies.

Also, as a former athlete, Igor realizes the importance and necessity of professional pre and post event massage. To further his expertise in sports massage, Igor took the Western Sports Massage for the Elite Athlete course and participated in the Interdisciplinary Sports Medicine Conference for the Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic winter games.

In 1999, Igor brought his family to Canada in pursuit of a better life. His family settled into the Vancouver rhythm and never looked back. Eager to continue his career in healing, in 2004 Igor re-certified as a massage therapist by studying at the West Coast College of Massage Therapy. He is proud to be part of the Electra Health Floor team and to offer clients his wealth of knowledge from years of practice in general medicine, neurology, massage therapy, acupuncture, and general manual therapy.

Igor leads a busy and successful practice treating professional athletes, runners, clients with neurological conditions, and those suffering from office related back and neck injuries. He is always ready and eager to assess your particular case and begin a treatment plan to help you achieve a more balanced and pain free existence. Igor also teaches at the West Coast College of Massage Therapy.

As an RMT, Arden’s main goal is to create an inclusive safe environment for all. Receiving a massage can be a very vulnerable experience, so ensuring the patient’s comfort level is key throughout all treatments.
